Racquetball Canada is following the recommendations from Public Health and supports the local rules that are in place. In Canada physical distancing measures remain in force and we are thus not able to start group training at this point in time. Any decisions regarding return to group training would ultimately be in conjunction with provincial \/ local health authorities, provincial \/ local government bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we all work to&nbsp;\u201cget back into the game\u201d Racquetball Canada has spent the past few months updating policies, developing safe sport protocols and working to make our sport more accessible at the local, provincial and national level.&nbsp;For those involved in&nbsp;you are&nbsp;getting re-started please ensure you refer to our Safe Sport pages and our policies as there is new and important information that will impact your return to sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"CCES: Making Sport Better\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dITcHE2gS5o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Racquetball Canada Return to Play Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Racquetball Canada is committed to making decisions that protect the health and safety of all our participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Racquetball Canada are not experts on pandemics and therefore all Federal, Provincial and local Government and Public Health Authority information, guidelines and directives supersede this information. To help mitigate the ill-effects of stress, protect mental health and promote mental fitness, it is recommended that we practice psychological hygiene as part of the daily routine. The following are some activities to be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Emotional Tolerance<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We must remember that emotions are an integral part of the human experience; they are there to protect us, guide us and help us recognize what we need.&nbsp;We should accept that our emotions are real and valid responses to this abnormal event. By understanding our emotions and core needs, we are able to increase our emotional tolerance. Valuable steps in this process include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Naming the emotion we are experiencing (e.g., I feel anxious and overwhelmed) and recognizing it as normal and valid (e.g., just my emotions doing their job in these times of uncertainty);<\/li><li>Accepting the emotion as a normal aspect of our experience (e.g., It\u2019s understandable that I have heightened level of anxiety given the current situation);<\/li><li>Identifying needs by exploring what the emotion is revealing or why it is important (e.g., I want to be safe and need to take necessary precautions)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Stress Management<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>COVID-19 is an unprecedented event. As such, there is no rule book to follow and it is inevitable that stress and anxiety levels rise given the uncertainty and unpredictability of the situation we are facing. However, it is important to remember that not all stress is bad; it depends on our perspective, competencies, and support. Adversity is part of high performance sport, therefore, athletes, coaches, and IST members can use existing skills to manage challenges and the unknown. COVID-related stress management tips include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Protective physical and psychological factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Engaging in physical distancing;<\/li><li>Washing hands and wearing a mask and gloves when out in public;<\/li><li>Staying home, especially if sick;<\/li><li>Reducing information by taking breaks from watching or listening to news;<\/li><li>Maintaining a sense of balance by pairing intense information processing with light activities (e.g., watching or reading something amusing, playing a game).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stress management<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Identifying stressors and focusing on the knowledge and skills we have to manage them \u2013 keeping our confidence greater than our fears;<\/li><li>Connecting with others and expressing worries and concerns to feel supported;<\/li><li>Taking care of our body by exercising, eating and sleeping well, and limiting our alcohol intake;<\/li><li>Spending time outdoors to benefit from mother nature\u2019s healing effects;<\/li><li>Doing breathing \/ relaxation exercises;<\/li><li>Having fun and staying stimulated by trying out new activities \/ hobbies;<\/li><li>Naming the emotion we are experiencing (e.g., I feel anxious and overwhelmed) and recognizing it as normal and valid (e.g., just my emotions doing their job in these times of uncertainty);<\/li><li>Accepting the emotion as a normal aspect of our experience (e.g., It\u2019s understandable that I have heightened level of anxiety given the current situation);<\/li><li>Identifying needs by exploring what the emotion is revealing or why it is important (e.g., I want to be safe and need to take necessary precautions).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mindfulness<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mindfulness is deep awareness of the present moment. It reflects our ability to BE.HERE.NOW with an accepting, nonjudgmental attitude. Mindfulness helps us to embrace all human experiences, regulate emotions, improve focus and sleep, and boost immunity. A daily dose of mindfulness training can make a world of difference<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gratitude and Growth<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To help balance the part of the brain that becomes activated when exposed to perceived threat and danger (the amygdala), we can even out the input by focusing on what is good. This can be done by scanning the world around us for three good things and writing those things down at the end of each day.&nbsp;This activity has shown to improve levels of optimism, happiness and subjective well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can also mitigate the stress response by adopting a \u201cchallenger\u201d mindset and looking for opportunities for growth and learning that comes with the challenge we are facing. For example, this quarantine is a great opportunity to build mental fitness and resilience skills, which can help enhance sport performance when back to training and competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a proactive and preventative approach and practice psychological hygiene on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canadian Championships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering ongoing developments resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19), and after consulting with our sport partners, the Racquetball Canada Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to <strong>CANCEL<\/strong> the 2020 Canadian Championships. This decision was taken to protect the health of our athletes, officials, volunteers and staff. At this time, we will also be rescheduling our Annual General Meeting to a date yet to be determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we are able to proceed within the current season, it is our hope to hold a selection event to crown our Open 2020 Canadian Champions in singles and doubles events and select our National team. In the event it is not safe to proceed before the end of the current season, the National team will be selected using the two selection events that have already occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Racquetball Canada shares in the disappointment but hopes participants will understand that its decision is rooted in prioritizing the health and well-being of our Racquetball family. We look forward to planning our 2021 Canadian Championships and hope to see many of you there.
