Coby Iwaasa and Samuel Murray finished their men’s doubles competition on Tuesday at the Pan Am Games with a silver medal. In their words, it’s a bittersweet win.

Canada played Mexico for gold in a match that looked like it could go either way. Mexico is the defending Pan Am Games Champion and top tournament seed, but Canada had a strong game plan. After winning the first game 11-6, and losing the second one 11-7, the rest of the match was extremely tight. Although Canada fought hard, Mexico ended up wining the next two matches with a narrow margin of 12-10 in the final two games.

The team event also got underway Tuesday which is a format where nations face each other in a best of three matches; two singles and one doubles.

Canada’s women’s team of Frédérique Lambert and Michèle Morissette won their first round against Team Chile to advance to the quarterfinals.

Both the women and men play in the Team Event again on Wednesday and potentially Thursday if they continue to advance.
